You can have a lot of plugins if they’re lightweight and well-built. Just monitor performance while you’re developing the site and use tools like caching and CDNs to offset any slowdowns.

I stick to 12 plugins on my site, and it works fine. I try to only install what’s absolutely necessary.

Why do you keep the number so low? Is it because of maintenance, or does it affect performance?

I’m mostly worried about performance. Too many plugins might slow things down, even though I’m not 100% sure. Better safe than sorry!
