I’m helping a small local business network and need a plugin for membership payments and event tickets. Members should get discounted tickets, and non-members pay full price. Credit card payments would be great. I checked out Memberspace, but it’s a bit pricey. Any suggestions? 
MemberPress might work and is a bit cheaper. But it sounds like your membership isn’t tied to accessing exclusive site content. If that’s the case, maybe consider Square Memberships, Stripe, or even PayPal for recurring payments.
You could also use WooCommerce and sell a product called ‘annual membership’ or try their subscription extension. It’s not cheap but could integrate well if you’re also selling tickets.

Actually, MemberPress can work even if it doesn’t handle event registrations directly. You can create two membership options for events: one for non-members at full price and another for members at a discount. It’s flexible and integrates with other plugins to protect registrations or content.
