Looking for a plugin to resize, compress, and convert images to WEBP… any suggestions?

I recently set up a WordPress news site for a friend, but he’s been complaining that it’s slow. After checking, I saw he’s been uploading images that are over 1MB each, and each post has about 15+ images.

Now I’m looking for a single plugin that can resize, compress, and convert these big images to WEBP format, while also deleting the original uploaded images.

Any suggestions?

Smush from WPMUDEV should do the trick.

If it’s the image size that’s slowing you down, you could also try the WebP Die website to compress images without losing quality.

ShortPixel Image Optimizer and EWWW both can resize, compress, and convert images to WEBP format. Might be what you’re looking for.

Here are a few options you can check out:

  1. Smush Image Optimization
  2. ShortPixel Image Optimizer
  3. Converter for Media
  4. WebP Express

Just a heads up, it might not just be the image size slowing things down. You should also think about delaying the loading of those images that aren’t visible right away when someone visits the site.

Imagify is a good option for this. It resizes, compresses, and converts images to WEBP format. You can also set it up to automatically delete the original images after conversion. Another solid option is Smush Pro, which has similar features.
